Dagan Para sa Gatas ni Nanay Launched

Dagan Para sa Gatas ni Nanay

With the support of Aboitizland, the human milk bank at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) will potentially see its completion through a fund-raising effort.

DAGAN PARA SA GATAS NI NANAY  is another fun run for a cause in Cebu. It has recently been launched, inviting runners of all shapes, sizes and genders to join the fun-run for a cause at 4:00 p.m. at The Outlets at Pueblo Verde on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

Human milk banks are a requirement for government and health institutions under the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009. These facilities are repositories for breastmilk donations with the goal of sharing human breastmilk for very sick, premature or malnourished babies or babies whose mothers may be unable to provide milk for them.

The VSMMC Milk Bank, although still under construction, has been operating since 2013 and the first of such facility in Region 7. So you see, this bank needs the help of private entities and individuals to start its operation and to bring this facility accessible to infants who may not be able to get sustenance from their mothers.

The run is organized by L.A.T.C.H. (Lactation, Attachment, Training, Counselling and Help), a non-profit organization of trained peer counselors, breastfeeding educators and mothers who have exclusively breastfed or are exclusively breastfeeding. The group offers quality lactation education and peer-counseling services to mothers who wish to breastfeed. They are also actively campaigning for breastfeeding.

AboitizLand, leading Cebu-based real estate developer, which operates the Mactan Economic Zone 2 and The Outlets at Pueblo Verde, is a partner of the Dagan para sa Gatas ni Nanay initiative in observance of International Women’s Month in March. The promotion of health and well-being is among AboitizLand’s key advocacies as part of its brand promise of nurturing communities.

Dagan para sa Gatas ni Nanay features one-, five- and ten-kilometer races. While the 5K and 10K distances are open to all, the 1K competition is exclusively designed for mothers who will be carrying their babies in harnesses or body carriers.
